Associate Scientist – Assay Development

We are seeking an Associate Scientist to join our Assay Development group. This position involves planning and designing experiments to develop Ultra-Sensitive Immunoassays on a microfluidics platform for the diagnosis of infectious diseases, and may involve the use of additional techniques, such as functional protein assays; labeling, purification and characterization of proteins and other biomolecules; PCR; transfection and cell culture.
The ideal candidate combines deep biological and biochemical expertise with practical laboratory skills in immunoassay design, optimization, development and validation. This person has worked extensively with a broad range of biochemical, microbiological, protein science, biomedical engineering and other technologies for the development of ultra-sensitive biomarker assays. Experience in clinical laboratory diagnostics, microfluidics, robotic liquid handling and magnetic particle processors a plus.
The Associate Scientist will work with an interdisciplinary team of biochemists, cell and molecular biologists, analytical chemists, and engineers. This is a lab-based position that will require flexibility, efficiency, creativity, a collaborative spirit, and a “can-do” attitude.
A normal day in the laboratory would focus on designing and carrying out experiments, analyzing results, communicating them to the other members of the projects and sharing ideas as what next step should be.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry or a related discipline – with minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Or, a Master’s degree with 4-6 years’ experience.
- Experience in immunoassay development with colorimetric, luminescence and fluorescence readout, including reagent development and optimization, assay protocol development & optimization, technical migration of manual assays to automated platforms, use of statistical methods, writing and execution of validation protocol.
- Familiarity with chemistry of raw materials used for immunoassays.
- Experience with ultra-sensitive and microfluidics platforms (assay on a chip preferred). Being able to answer questions of how ELISA, MSD, SIMOA, Gyrolab technologies deliver these assays, and how to troubleshoot a variety of issues will be critical to success.
- Experience with In Vitro Diagnostics development in conformance with assay specifications within Design Controlled process, or experience with Laboratory Developed Tests a plus.

- Plan, organize, and conduct independent experiments upon approval of the principal investigator for the development of diagnostic-grad ultra-sensitive immunoassays.
- Design, test, and evaluate methods and protocol.
- Analyze, summarize, and organize collected data.
- Together with principal investigator, prepare publications and present results of investigation in internal meetings.
- Purchase and/or recommends purchase of new equipment.
- Responsible for the routine operations of the laboratory under the direction of the principal investigator.
